Director Talks About Hypothetical Settings for a Possible Nioh 3

Nioh 3 News

Nioh 2 was accepted in a very positive way by the critics, therefore, a sequel seems to be very likely. The producer and director of the title Fumihiko Yasuda recently shared his ideas for a new setting of Nioh 3. The action could also be located in Europe or China.

In a panel held at Momocon, the Producer and Director Fumihiko Yasuda of Nioh 2 talked about a possible continuation of Nioh 3. He also spoke about the possible settings. According to the executive, the next part of the title could also be located in Europe or China.

Yasuda didn’t hesitate to mention that Nioh and Nioh 2 covered a lot of content that is common for games with a setting in the Sengoku Era, so that it is now open to new locations. The director is particularly interested in Ireland and Keltic folklore and mythology.

But the time of the Three Kingdoms from Chinese history could also be considered as a setting for a new game. When asked about the Keltic legends, Yasuda declared that he liked the story of Cú Chulainn and Richard Yates, who was inspired by Keltic folklore. But the late Edo period and the Shinsengumi could also be used as a setting, as he made clear when asked.

For the time being, Fumihiko Yasuda is working on the DLCs for Nioh 2 with his development team. Nioh 2 is currently available exclusively on PS4. The first DLC, entitled “The Tengu’s Disciple,” will release on July 30, 2020.
