Sony has reported that the PlayStation 5 has now shipped 92.2 million units globally as of December 31, 2025. The figures were shared in Sony’s latest financial results covering the three months ended December 31, 2025.
Quarterly Shipments Decline Slightly
During the three months ending December 31, 2025, Sony shipped 8 million PS5 units. This represents a decline of 1.5 million units compared to the same quarter in the previous fiscal year.
While shipments remain strong, the year-on-year drop suggests that PS5 sales are gradually stabilising as the console moves further into its life cycle.
PlayStation Network and Software Sales Performance
Sony also provided several key updates on PlayStation’s broader ecosystem:
PlayStation Network monthly active users:
As of September 30, 2025, there were 132 million active users, up 3 million compared to the same period last year.
Software sales (PS5 + PS4 combined):
A total of 97.2 million games were sold in the three months ended December 31, 2025 — an increase of 1.3 million year over year.
First-party titles:
13.2 million units of Sony-published games were sold, up 1.6 million from the same period last year.
Digital sales share:
76 per cent of all software sales were digital downloads, a two-percent increase compared to the previous year.
What This Means
Despite slightly lower hardware shipments, Sony’s PlayStation business remains strong, driven by growing digital sales, rising first-party performance, and an expanding PlayStation Network user base.
The data suggests that PlayStation is continuing to shift toward a more digital and service-focused ecosystem, even as PS5 continues to sell at a high level.
