CD Projekt Red, the makers of the hit game Cyberpunk 2077, seems to be adding online multiplayer to its sequel, known as Cyberpunk 2 or Project Orion. This comes from recent job postings where the company is looking for experts to build network features for the game, letting players connect and play together over the internet.
The original Cyberpunk 2077 came out in 2020 and focused on a single-player story in the huge city of Night City, where players create characters and make choices that change the world. At first, the team planned multiplayer but dropped it to fix launch problems. Now, new job ads show they’re bringing it back for the sequel.
One posting calls for a Lead Network Engineer to design online systems, including ways to match players for games, fix delays in actions, and handle server speed. Another ad for a Senior Gameplay Programmer mentions building features that work for both solo play and group sessions.
These hints match what CD Projekt Red’s leaders said last year: they’re thinking about multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2 to let friends team up for missions or explore together. The sequel will return to Night City and add a new area based on a dark future version of Chicago, giving more space for shared adventures. It’s still early days, with the game possibly years away—maybe 2028 or later—since the team is also working on The Witcher 4.
Fans are thrilled on social media, imagining causing chaos with buddies in the cyberpunk world. But remember, these are just job ads, so nothing is set in stone until CD Projekt Red announces it officially. The studio shared the postings on X yesterday, along with other roles like AI engineers and animators.
This could make Cyberpunk 2 even bigger, mixing deep stories with fun group play. Keep watching for more news as development goes on.
