FromSoftware’s Miyazaki: No Plans for Elden Ring 2, But New Titles Are in Development

Elden Ring

At the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 Japan Asia, FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that the studio currently has no plans for an Elden Ring 2, (as reported by IGN Japan).

Miyazaki clarified that while the studio is not actively working on a sequel, they are not ruling out future developments within the Elden Ring universe. “We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2,” Miyazaki stated, adding that the IP may still evolve “in some form in the future.”

The remarks come amid ongoing excitement for the Elden Ring universe, buoyed by the recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which has been well-received by players and critics alike.

A Busy Slate of New Projects

Though Elden Ring 2 isn’t on the horizon, Miyazaki revealed that FromSoftware is working on several new titles across different genres. Some of these projects are being helmed by Miyazaki himself, while others are led by other talented members of the FromSoftware team.

The studio has a history of diversifying its offerings, moving from the Dark Souls series to games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Armored Core VI. This suggests their upcoming lineup could bring fresh experiences for fans of their signature challenge-driven gameplay.

The Legacy of Elden Ring

Beyond the ongoing DLC content, Elden Ring has cemented its place as a cultural phenomenon, earning a PlayStation Generations Award and continued acclaim for its base game and expansions. While a direct sequel remains uncertain, the potential for future stories or spin-offs within the Elden Ring universe still excites fans.

With FromSoftware’s next projects already underway, players can look forward to more innovative and challenging titles, even as the studio lets Elden Ring stand on its own as a groundbreaking achievement in gaming.
