Fujifilm Launches 8K GFX Eterna 55 Large-Format Cinema Camera

GFX Eterna 55 Large-Format Cinema Camera

Fujifilm has introduced its first-ever cinema camera, the GFX Eterna 55, designed for professional filmmakers. Announced yesterday, this camera features a large 102-megapixel sensor and can record in 8K resolution, delivering stunning image quality for movies, documentaries, commercials, and more. It will be available for pre-order starting September 15, 2025, at $16,499.95, with shipping expected in October 2025.

The GFX Eterna 55 has a 43.8 x 32.9mm sensor, about 1.7 times larger than a standard full-frame sensor, making it one of the tallest digital cinema sensors available. This large sensor captures more light, creating sharp, colorful images with a cinematic look. It supports multiple recording formats, including 8K (8192 x 4320), 4K Open Gate (3840 x 2880), and Full HD (2048 x 1080), with frame rates up to 48fps in 4K and 120fps in Full HD.

Fujifilm’s famous color science is a big highlight, offering 20 built-in film simulation modes like PROVIA, Velvia, and ETERNA for creative looks. Filmmakers can also add custom 3D color settings and use F-Log2 for flexible editing. The camera includes a built-in variable ND filter (0.6 to 2.1) to control light, supports ProRes 422 and H.265 video formats, and can connect to Adobe Frame.io for cloud sharing.

The camera uses Fujifilm’s G-mount lenses but can also work with ARRI PL-mount lenses using an adapter. Alongside the camera, Fujifilm launched the FUJINON GF 32-90mm T3.5 zoom lens, designed for professional video work. The Eterna 55 features dual 3-inch touchscreens, a 5-inch external monitor, and plenty of ports for connecting gear.

John Blackwood, a Fujifilm director, said, “The GFX Eterna 55 brings our largest sensor to filmmakers, offering incredible detail and flexibility for creative projects.” The camera’s design makes it suitable for various productions, from indie films to music videos.

With its high-quality sensor and filmmaker-friendly features, the GFX Eterna 55 positions Fujifilm as a strong competitor in the cinema camera market, alongside brands like Canon and Nikon. Pre-orders will be available at retailers like B&H Photo, with more details expected soon.
