Samsung Electronics has officially launched a new 13-inch Color E-Paper display, designed mainly for retail signage and in-store communication. The new model, called EM13DX, expands Samsung’s Color E-Paper lineup and focuses on ultra-low power use, slim design, and sustainability.
Samsung says the display is built as a modern replacement for printed signs, offering businesses a flexible digital option that looks like paper but works like a screen.
Designed to Replace Printed Signs
The 13-inch Color E-Paper is the smallest model in Samsung’s lineup so far. Its size is similar to an A4 sheet of paper, making it suitable for shelves, counters, tables, doors, and other places where paper signs are still commonly used.
The display has a 1600 × 1200 resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio, delivering clear, readable visuals. Samsung uses advanced digital ink and color processing to give the screen a paper-like look, with smooth color transitions and sharp edges that resemble printed posters.
Ultra-Slim, Lightweight, and Cable-Free
One of the key advantages of the new display is its easy installation. It comes with a built-in rechargeable battery, supports USB-C charging, and does not require a permanent power connection.
The display is only 17.9mm thick and weighs just 0.9kg with the battery included. This makes it easy for businesses to install, move, and reposition displays as promotions or layouts change.
First Display With Phytoplankton-Based Bio-Resin
Samsung says this is the world’s first commercial display to use a housing made with bio-resin derived from phytoplankton. The casing has been independently verified to include 45% recycled plastic and 10% bio-resin, helping reduce reliance on traditional petroleum-based plastics.
According to Samsung, this material choice can cut carbon emissions during manufacturing by more than 40%. Sustainability also extends to the packaging, which is made entirely from paper.
Extremely Low Power Consumption
The Color E-Paper display consumes zero power when showing static images, making it ideal for signage that does not change frequently. Even when content is updated, energy use remains much lower than standard digital signage, helping businesses reduce electricity costs over time.
Simple Content Management
Businesses can control the display using the Samsung E-Paper App, available on Android and iOS. This allows staff to update content directly from their phones without extra hardware.
The display also works with Samsung VXT, a cloud-based platform that allows remote content updates, device management, and troubleshooting. VXT includes tools to preview content and adjust settings to ensure colors appear correctly before deployment.
More Models Coming Soon
Samsung also confirmed that it will reveal a 20-inch Color E-Paper model at ISE 2026 in Barcelona, taking place from February 3 to February 6. This new model will join the existing 32-inch version, expanding the lineup to cover more business use cases.
