Sony Buys Game Developer Haven Studios

Haven Studios

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire game developer Haven Studios. The studio is headed up by Jade Raymond and has been working on a PlayStation-exclusive project. Haven will now benefit from Sony’s technology and marketing team, as well as from the world-class talent it’ll be receiving from the Sony acquisition. The acquisition is also a sign of the company’s continued growth.

The studio has over 60 employees and is expected to be part of Sony’s next major acquisition, which will be a PlayStation game. The acquisition will see Haven become the 18th studio under PlayStation.

The studio’s management will continue to run day-to-day operations and will continue to work closely with the PlayStation leadership team. Although the acquisition is expected to be a few years away, it’s a positive move for the PlayStation brand.

Though the game studio hasn’t yet revealed what its next project will be, a new project has already been revealed. The studio’s latest announcement is that they plan to create a live service game.

As far as live services go, this is a natural fit, considering Bungie’s experience with developing Destiny 2. Jason Raymond believes the PlayStation acquisition is exciting because of its financial backing and freedom to invest in a new IP.
