MercurySteam, the developer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, has officially announced its next big game—Blades of Fire, a single-player action-adventure game in a dark fantasy world. Releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Epic Games Store) on May 22, 2025.
The game takes players to a world that was once dominated by The Forgers, powerful giants who bestowed upon humanity the secret of The Steel before their civilization crumbled into dust.
A Kingdom in Turmoil, a Hero Emerges
The player is Aran de Lira, the eldest of the King’s Ward, in a world where Queen Nerea has corrupted the heritage of The Forgers, casting steel into stone. Today, only her horrific army can wield divine metal, rendering their arms all but unstoppable. To live, Aran needs to be expert in Forge Scrolls so players can create weapons that fit various fighting styles, with more than 30 distinctive scrolls and seven weapon families providing close to limitless customization.
Brutal and Tactical Combat
Blades of Fire boasts a rich combat system, with players able to attack specific areas of an enemy and slash, stab, or bludgeon based on their opponent’s armor and weaponry. With more than 50 different types of enemies, ranging from the Queen’s elite guards to undead abominations and twisted beasts, each fight will need strategy and skill. Aran’s ally, Adso, is both a guide and a chronicler and provides enemy analysis and information about the ancient tongue of The Forgers.
A New Age of Fantasy Action
Leveraging MercurySteam’s pedigree in swift combat, immersive world-building, and complex storytelling, Blades of Fire aims to offer an electrifying mix of bloody melee combat and rich RPG elements. As fate is forged, the destiny of The Forgers’ forgotten legacy—and the world at large—rests in the player’s hands.
Blades of Fire launches on May 22, 2025, will deliver an epic new dark fantasy experience to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
