Could the next Sony Interactive Entertainment games like The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima be delayed due to the Coronavirus emergency? The company has issued a note in which it warns that it is always attentive to developments in the current international situation.
The press release concerns all the company’s activities and as regards the Game & Network Services segment, it is made known that Coronavirus should not have any material impact as regards the activities of the current fiscal year (at the end of March 31, 2020) while for as for the following month’s Sony will carefully evaluate the situation.
“Although no issues have emerged so far, Sony is carefully monitoring the risk of delays in production schedules for game software titles at both its first-party studios and partner studios, primarily in Europe and the U.S,” can be read on the official Sony website.
At the moment there are no critical issues regarding delays in the production phase for the first and third party games, but as mentioned the situation is constantly changing especially in the United States and Europe. For example, Capcom announced yesterday that Resident Evil 3 would be delayed in some markets for physical copies, given the impossibility of producing and delivering this type of goods to retailers, which are also closed due to the provisions of local governments.
We just have to wait to understand how the situation will evolve, in recent weeks Jason Schreier of Kotaku has made it clear that delays could be expected for the games coming out from May onwards, without however mentioning any specific title.
Do you think that there would be a delay in the release of The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima due to coronavirus? What do you think about how Sony will handle this situation?
