Fortnite Confirmed Launch Title for PS5 & Xbox Series X; Cross-Progression & Items Carry Over Confirmed

Fortnite PS5 and Xbox Series X

A new generation of consoles is on the horizon and Epic Games knows this very well. It is for this reason that it is already working on Fortnite, its popular Battle Royale, which will be available as a launch title on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. In this way, you will have the opportunity to continue reaping successes.

Through a blog post, Epic Games was thrilled to confirm that Fortnite will be available on next-gen consoles. According to Epic, it will be the same Battle Royale that many already “know and love” only prepared to take full advantage of next-generation platforms.

But what are the features that Fortnite will have in the next generation of consoles? Epic Games has not said so. So we will have to wait to have more details about what the future holds for Fortnite.

The Battle Royale title has stood out for being a game that broke borders by implementing cross-play between the main platforms and allowing you to transfer your progress. This is why many wonder if the same will happen when it arrives on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

As announced by Epic Games, their plan is to keep crossover play in Fortnite on all platforms. So, if the company achieves its intentions, you can continue playing with your PlayStation 4 friends even if you already have an Xbox Series X. On the other hand, Epic Games also plans to maintain cross-progression between generations and platforms. This means that you will be able to maintain your account, progression, items, and more.

Now, it’s important to note that jumping to next-gen consoles isn’t the only change that’s on the way to Fortnite. Epic Games revealed that Fortnite will migrate to the recently announced Unreal Engine 5 sometime in mid-2021. That said, the first version for Fortnite on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will run on Unreal Engine 4.

“While we can’t share specifics at the moment, more powerful hardware will allow us to improve performance and visuals. At launch, the version of Fortnite we release on next-gen consoles will be built with Unreal Engine 4. We will migrate Fortnite to Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021,” explained Epic Games.

Fortnite is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
