Publisher Phoenixx and developer Neotr have announced that “NeverAwake FLASHBACK”, a new spin-off game from the popular nightmare-themed action shooter, will launch on December 10 for PC via Steam. This exciting sequel brings fresh challenges and replayable adventures to fans of the original, with support for English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese languages.
“NeverAwake FLASHBACK” builds on the eerie world of “NeverAwake”, where players control a young girl named Rem fighting off creepy dream monsters that keep her awake at night. After barely escaping the horrors of the first game, Rem thinks she can finally rest easy.
But her peaceful dreams twist back into darkness, forcing her to team up with her stuffed toy companion, Gabe-chan, to dive into her mind once more and battle sleep demons for true calm.
Unlike the original, this version mixes in roguelite elements for more variety. Each playthrough shuffles the order of stages randomly, so no two runs feel the same.
Between levels, players pick from different weapons and tools to tackle enemies in short, intense bursts. The game keeps the fast-paced shooting action from “NeverAwake”, where you aim and fire in all directions, but adds new bosses, traps, and ways to customize your loadout. You can even enter a simple code to replay a favorite set of levels for extra fun.
The original “NeverAwake” won the “Vermilion Gate Award” for best game at the BitSummit X-Roads event in 2022, praised for its hand-drawn artwork, smooth animations, and clever twists on shooting gameplay. This follow-up was born from fan requests for more content and endless replay value, turning the nightmare into an arcade-style challenge that’s quick to pick up but hard to master.
Hiroshi Sawatari, the game’s developer, shared: “Fans loved “NeverAwake”‘s world and tough fights, but wanted even more to explore. We hope this is a nightmare players never want to wake from!”
“NeverAwake FLASHBACK” will cost $19.99 on Steam, with a demo available now for those eager to test the waters. Pre-orders are open, and the full release comes just in time for holiday gaming sessions. If you enjoyed the spooky thrills of the first game, this sequel promises deeper dives into Rem’s subconscious with plenty of surprises along the way.
