PlayStation 5 is expected to arrive at the end of 2020; However, there are still several things about the Sony console that are a complete mystery. One of them is the catalog it will have. This is why it is interesting to know that, according to a source, several of the games for the new console will be also available on PlayStation 4.

In its report on the difficulties Sony Interactive Entertainment is facing with the price of PlayStation 5, Takashi Mochizuki, a journalist who writes for Bloomberg, said the transition between PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 is expected to be gradual. He also mentioned that “many” of the games that are released for the PlayStation 5 will also be available on the last generation console.

“Many of the games launched for the PlayStation 5 will also be available to play on the predecessor machine, so revenue from software and related network services is expected to keep the business performance intact,” were the journalist’s words.

Although he does not go into detail, this report seems to indicate a couple of interesting things. The first is that, being a gradual change of generation, the PlayStation 4 would continue to receive support with services and games, something that would not be surprising since it has happened in past generations. The other is that, unlike Microsoft with Xbox Series X in its early years, Sony does want PlayStation 5 to have exclusives, since not all of its games will be available on PS4.

However, it is important to note that Mochizuki did not specify whether the above refers to games distributed by Sony or by third-party studios and distributors. So, it is unknown if it will be possible to play some of Sony’s first games for PS5 on PlayStation 4 or if its strategy will be to go full with exclusives.

However, it is important to note that Sony Interactive Entertainment has not commented on this situation. So, it is better to take it with a grain of salt although it comes from a source that has been reliable. We will inform you more when we know about it.

In recent news, a patent for PS5 suggests paying for microtransactions when playing games. On the other hand, the launches of PS5 and Xbox Series X could be delayed due to Coronavirus.
