Donkey Kong Bananza is an adventure and platform game where you play as Donkey Kong, the strong gorilla. Your main goal is to explore a big underground world and find special banana-shaped diamonds called Banandium Gems. You also want to stop a bad group of apes who are stealing these gems.
Game World and Layers
The game world is made up of many layers underground. Each layer has a different environment, like icy caves, lava zones, or tropical forests. There are 17 main layers in total in Donkey Kong Bananza, and some layers have smaller parts called sublayers. You will travel down through these layers, unlocking new areas by fighting bosses and destroying obstacles.
What Donkey Kong Can Do
- Donkey Kong is very strong and can do many things:
- Punch, slap, and roll to fight enemies and break things.
- Climb walls and pick up objects to throw them.
- Break almost everything in the environment to find hidden paths or items.
- Use chunks of broken ground as snowboards or to build new paths.
- Explore freely by digging and destroying parts of the world.
You also unlock special Bananza transformations during the game. These give Donkey Kong new powers, like stronger punches, faster movement, or the ability to glide and drop bombs. These transformations last for a limited time but can be recharged by collecting gold.
Banandium Gems and Upgrades
The main goal is to collect Banandium Gems. These act like experience points and can be used to upgrade Donkey Kong’s abilities. As you find gems, you can make him stronger, faster, or better at fighting.
Helping Friends and Doing Challenges
You meet other characters in the game like Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and even Pauline. They give you tasks, clues, or special powers. Some areas have puzzles, races, or tough fights that give you extra rewards when you complete them.

Story Summary
Donkey Kong travels to Ingot Isle where a company named VoidCo is mining Banandium Gems. The bad leader, Void Kong, and his helpers want to use the gems’ power for their own plans. Donkey Kong and Pauline (a young girl who turns out to be a magical singer) team up to stop them. They journey down to the Planet Core, fighting enemies and making friends with animal tribes. In the end, they face King K. Rool and save the world.
